| An Old Irish Blessing |
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. |
I can always relate this blessing to running... sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. Today was a day that it didn't.
Long run day. Scheduled was an 11 miler, so we opted for an 11.4 mile route. The weather was almost perfect. 50 degrees (woo hoo shorts weather), but there was a breeze (13 mph). Looking at the direction that the flags were blowing, we figured that we'd have a head wind about miles 5 thru 8. For some reason we hit the wind during the first mile, and every mile after. How the heck can you run a route that is a square and have the wind in your face the whole way? Then at about 9 miles the sun went behind the clouds. Apparently this was a cold front, because the temp dropped 5 to 10 degrees in the the next half hour. That's the thing about New England weather... If you don't like it, wait five minutes, it'll change.
Saturday is the 39th running of the Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race, hopefully the blessing will be in our favor.
Today's totals - 11.38 miles / 264.83 miles for the year.
